Theres a nice post i saw in official Google Adsense Blog today and saw some useful tips there. Though the tips are for optimizing your site for Google Search, but also will help in getting good SERP in other search engines like MSN or Yahoo.
The tips are quite well explained and should be easily understandable by n00b webmasters. Not only that, theres also a YouTube video enbaded where MattCutt teaches the basics of SEO for Google Search (Mainly optimizing the Images on your site).
The covered Topics are:

  • Its clearly mentioned there that the Google Search and Adsense are totally different and independent of each other. Showing Adsense on your site will not effect your rank in any way.
  • The issues on what the ranking depends. The value of the algorithms, backlinks, contents are discussed. What I didn’t liked is that they are referring Webmasters to consult different Webmaster Forums which included the Official Google Webmaster Forum.
  • The value and quality of the outgoing links from your site. They are quite important and should comply with the Google guidelines. They should not be paid links or any other kind of links which should pass the PageRank. They are discouraging webmasters not to participate in link schemes.

Here are three tips directly from that post.

# Your pages should have a clear hierarchy and relevant internal links. We also recommend creating a Sitemap and using Google’s Webmaster Tools. These tools are useful, user-friendly and will provide information such as where your backlinks come from or which queries visitors used to reach your site.
# Use <title> tags that are explicit and useful for the user. For example, avoid a title like “Homepage” or “Welcome to my site”.
# For images, use ALT attributes to describe appropriately what the image is about.
